What happens to the images you add?
Images you drop, paste or choose are decoded and analyzed by your browser on your device. The files are never transmitted to a server, and closing the tab discards them.
What happens when you enter a website or image address?
The Website Color Extractor and the image address field ask the site's server to fetch a public web page, its stylesheets or an image. The server passes the response to your browser and keeps no copy of the content.
To limit abuse, the server records a hashed form of your IP address with the time of each request and allows 20 requests per minute. Entries older than 60 seconds are discarded.
Does the web host keep logs?
The hosting provider, Hostinger, keeps standard web server access logs for security and operations. These logs contain the IP address, the requested address, the date and time, and the browser type.
Which analytics does the site use?
The site uses Microsoft Clarity to understand how visitors use the tools, through clicks, scrolling and session replays. Clarity sets cookies and processes data under the Microsoft Privacy Statement. A session replay is a reconstruction of the page, not a video recording of the screen. Clarity masks text by default.
Do session replays show your image?
Session replays do not show your image. Your image file never leaves your browser, so Clarity never receives the file itself. The picture is also visible on the page while you work, and a replay rebuilds what the page displayed. Every element that renders your image carries the data-clarity-mask attribute: the image on the picking stage, the magnifier, and the thumbnails. Clarity replaces a masked element with a blank placeholder, so the replay shows the layout and your clicks without the picture.
The extracted colors are a different matter. Swatch hex codes are ordinary page text, and Clarity masks text in replays by default. Website addresses that you type into the website tool are sent to this site’s fetch proxy, as described above.
What does the site store in your browser?
The site stores one value in your browser's local storage: theme, your choice of light or dark mode. Microsoft Clarity stores its own cookies as described above.
